Daryl Braithwaite

October 2017

In 2017 the Daryl Braithwaite concert at the Flying Saucer in Caufield was our major event. We had the normal raffles and live auctions which were very successful plus testimony from a person who has fought a long and hard battle with Crohn’s disease. Then it was over to Daryl who captivated the audience with his fantastic voice. He brought the crowd alive with a 45 minute show that ended with a wave of huge applause! The evening raised approximately $76,000 which represented 50% of funds needed to pay for another research project. A heartfelt thank you to our ambassador Daryl Braithwaite who gave freely of his own time.

Degas Exhibition at NGV

August 2016

On 31 August 2016 our supporters were given an unprecedented opportunity to experience the incredible life’s work of an iconic master Edgar Degas. The exhibition at the NGV showcased Degas as one of the defining artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and provide audiences with a rare experience to truly be immersed in the creativity and originality of his art. Guests enjoyed a cocktail party hosted by Peter Rowland before viewing the exhibition. The event raised more than $86,000.

Movie Night

July 2016

Our movie night held in July 2016, showcased a pre-screening of Paris Can Wait. Our movie nights are always well received and this one did not disappoint with over 150 people in attendance and another $6,000 profit raised toward our research support. The evening commenced with a drink and our famous sandwiches by Gourmet Touch, followed by choc tops and a concise update on the research projects by Dr Emily Wright.

Magic at Vue de Monde

August 2015

Our 2015 event at Vue de monde did not disappoint. Our guests enjoyed the spectacular night-time Melbourne views which stretched as far as the eye could, extraordinary canape’s offered by the talented staff, as well entertainment by a little bit of magic. Fundraising events included lucky envelopes, where everyone who participated took home a prize, and a live auction. Congratulations to everyone who participated and took home prizes. We welcomed some new sponsors to The Gutsy Group and their contributions to our fundraising efforts were greatly appreciated. Over $61,000 was raised for research into a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis – an amazing effort that was only possible with the support of our guests, donors and sponsors. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of The Gutsy Group and IBD research.

BABBA Extravaganza

May 2014

Each year our major events have been getting bigger and better and this year did not disappoint. Over 150 guests attended Fenix Events to dance the night away with the fabulous BABBA. The food was fantastic and amidst the lights and music, our guests helped raise over $65, 000 by participating in the lucky dip and the live auction. As usual, these funds will go to supporting research into a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The evening and the money raised would not have been possible without the support of our major sponsors and the companies who donated goods and services to our fundraising activities on the night. Our next event is participation in Run Melbourne so get your sneakers on.

Movie Night

August 2012

Almost $3000 was raised for research into a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis when guests attended theKino Cinema in Collins St for the screening of the much anticipated Australian movie, The Sapphires. Thank you again to Palace Cinema for their support of this event which showcased their newly refurbished venue. Once again gastroenterologist Dr Ross Elliott spoke and enlightened our supporters of the events held in 2012 and of the research project being led by Dr Timothy Florin and his team at Queensland University. It was lovely to see some new faces at this event as well as those of our regular supporters who love to attend our annual movie night. We thank you for your support and look forward to your attendance next year!

Run Melbourne

July 2012

Another fantastic effort was made this year by a team of eight dedicated Gutsy Group supporters who between them raised almost $10,000. A fantastic effort! We had five competitors in the half-marathon this year, one in the 10 km run and another ran 5 km. As usual it was a cold July morning at 5.30am when the half-marathoners began their preparation. There was some drizzle but the sun soon shone by the time the 10km race started and continued until the final competitor finished her 5km effort. After months, well maybe weeks, of preparation, the day was over. The is a definite feeling of accomplishment when you participate in a physical competition and we are grateful for the effort that each of our competitors put in on the day and in training. We look forward to an even bigger team next year! Start running!

Luncheon at The Millswyn Restaurant

May 2012

In May a luncheon was held at The Millswyn restaurant in South Yarra and several Gutsy Group supporters were invited. Dr Greg Moore gave a very concise update on the research project which The Gutsy Group has chosen to support in 2012 and answered many questions about the project and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Jane Panaccio then shared her story of how both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis have impacted upon her family. Lively discussion throughout the meal ensured that a pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all. Most importantly, the event raised much-needed funds for research and approximately $105,000 was pledged.

Up Close with Daryl Braithwaite

March 2012

It was a balmy night in Melbourne when 160 Gutsy Group supporters attended an amazing event at the NGV. After their arrival through the lamp lit garden, guests enjoyed finger food and drinks served by Peter Rowland Catering in Persimmon. During the evening Erin presented her honest and raw personal story about living with Crohn’s disease and the impact it has had on her life and that of her family. After the formalities, Daryl Braithwaite and his band gave a wonderful and memorable performance. Our supporters loved it and joined in, making it a fun night.

Guests also participated in a lucky envelope activity and later in a live auction which contributed significantly to the funds raised on the night. Auction prices included accommodation and flights to Noosa, an accommodation and pamper package at the Westin Melbourne, a Totally Wild ‘money can’t buy’ package as well as a dozen bottles of premium red wine. Thank you to all our sponsors who donated financially and in goods to make our event the success it was, particularlyAgostinelli Perlen and RT Edgar. Over $30,000 was raised and will go directly to research into finding a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Movie Night

May 2011

Our latest movie night was another terrific event raising over $4000.00 for research into a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

This night is fast becoming a much-anticipated fundraiser for the Gutsy Group with a full-house of over 200 supporters attending the Kino Cinema on May 18th. Drinks and sandwiches were enjoyed by all before the screening of the classic filmWater for Elephants. Dr Ross Elliott welcomed everyone and gave an animated and succinct explanation ofwhatCrohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis actually do to the bowel. He also explained how vital research is still needed to understand this process more fully before a cure can be found.

The Gutsy Group would like to thank Graeme Miller Wines who donated the raffle prize of a beautiful wine package comprising wine, a voucher and two tickets to the Shortest Lunch festival in June. Visit their cellar door at: 1620 Melba Highway, Dixons Creek Victoria (Melways: 267 K1).

Thanks must also go to Palace Cinemas and all the staff at Kino for their assistance in ensuring that The Gutsy Group movie night remains a success and continues to raise much-needed funds for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis research.
